At North Bay Physical Therapy, Scott Shaffer, MS., PT, Richard Rossi, MS., PT, and team have been delivering high-quality physical, aquatic and massage therapy to the residents of Santa Cruz County for 20 years. 

Scott Shaffer

PT, MS.• APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor

Scott is certified by the Aquatic Therapy Rehab Institute and teaches workshops in aquatics to other therapists. He was the aquatic specialist at Watsonville Community Hospital. Prior to physical therapy school, Scott was a massage therapist at the San Francisco Ballet. He is a board-certified orthopedic specialist and received his master’s degree in physical therapy from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, CA. Scott recently trained in Cortical Field Re-Integration methods that uses Feldenkrais techniques to improve ease of movement.

 

Richard Rossi

PT, MS.• APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor

Richard has been delivering high quality physical therapy in San Jose and Santa Cruz for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in post-op joint rehabilitation, cervical and lumbar injuries and post-operative spinal care. He also has a strong interest in the treatment of chronic pain. Richard's under graduate degree is in Athletic Training from California State University San Jose and he earned his Master's in Physical Therapy from the University of the Pacific in Stockton California.  .

Heather Griffith

PT, DPT.• APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor        

Heather graduated from Hunter College in New York City with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, following a professional dance career and teaching yoga. Her interests include: the spine, chronic pain, neurology, and women's health. Heather enjoys outdoor walks/hikes with her family and runs as well. Her goal in the clinic is to understand how movement functions uniquely in an individual’s life and explore new ways of moving to provide alternatives for each person based on his/her needs. 

NELLIE THORNGATE

PTAAPTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor  

Nellie is a physical therapist assistant who graduated from the Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts in 2014 after transitioning from a decade-long career as a wildlife biologist. She specializes in soft tissue mobilization, aquatic manual therapy, Pilates, and adaptive yoga. Nellie is also a dancer and yoga practitioner, and enjoys birding and gardening. Her fundamental aspiration as a physical therapist assistant is to help each patient find the most functional, comfortable, and joyful movement available to their body.

 

James Speir

CMT, CLT • Massage Therapist

James has over 15 years of experience serving the Monterey area. He is unique in that he can deliver both deep tissue and also very light lymphatic massage. James is also a lymphedema educator and specialist dealing with lymphatic issues.

Beverly Jennings

Massage Therapist

Beverly offers a wide range of massage modalities and is adept at working with painful and stiff joints throughout the body. She has a lifelong interest in herbs and alternative therapies.

Vera is here to help you. She will direct you in the appropriate direction to help answer any questions that you may have. Please call our clinic to schedule appointments with Vera at 831-462-5777 between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM most days of the year.

SAVARNA WILEY

Savarna was drawn to the healing arts at an early age and trained  in Holistic Health Education, Yoga and Art Therapies in the 1980s.  She earned a Masters degree in Transpersonal psychology,  explored many spiritual traditions and worked as a chaplain for hospice patients and families for 17 years.    Her current practice, and joy, is using hypnosis and related studies to help people break through their  inner barriers to access their  own innate wisdom and healing power.

She is a Clinical and Medical Hypnotherapist, Master level NLP Practitioner,  instructor of hypnosis at The Institute for Transpersonal Studies and trainer for The Newton Institute for LBL therapy.

North Bay's goal is to bring educational opportunities to the physical therapy community. The general public is welcome to attend sessions led by our therapists to learn the approaches and techniques used by our therapists. We also host continuing education courses for our fellow therapist colleagues throughout the year.
